Sciatica is a pain that travels down from your lower back or buttock, often into the outer part of the calf muscle, around the ankle, sometimes as far as your foot. It happens when a spinal nerve becomes irritated or compressed, usually as it exits the spine, before it joins with other nerve roots to form the Sciatic Nerve.

A thorough examination at this stage is critical, as an accurate diagnosis will lead to the correct advice and treatment. The pain can sometimes be likened by patients as a toothache sensation, or a severe shooting pain, sometimes accompanied with pins and needles tingling, or numbness ( reduced sensation over a patch of skin )
