This is normally associated with high velocity injury as in forward and back movement of the neck. (Hyperextension /hyperflexion)
Causes are often car accidents, extreme sports such as bungee jumping or physical abuse
Can be acute (2- 3 months) or chronic (longer than 3 months)
Most patients recover within 6 months.
Signs and Symptoms may include:
Pain
Decreased ROM (range of movement)
Muscle tightness
Headaches, nausea or dizziness
Jaw pain
Referred pain to shoulder and arms
Pins and needles or weakness in the arms or hands
Problems with swallowing
